We are called out; we are ransomed
We are not of the world we're in
We are chosen; we are blessed
To bring light to the lives of men
So Father sow Your seed
Give us life in community
Wake us from our sleep
This is Your time; this is Your place
And we are vessels for breaking

Under Your grace we are led by Your spirit
You have redeemed us by the blood of Your Son
Send down Your word; we are eager to hear it
Ready our hearts to carry Your love

You are sunlight; You are morning
Your the hope of a brand new day
You're our comfort; You are blessing
and You wipe all our tears away
So change us from within
Render miracles from our sin
Remind us once again
This is Your time; this is Your place
We are vessels for breaking

Come Ye Sinners

Come, ye sinners, poor and wretched,
Weak and wounded, sick and sore;
Jesus, ready, stands to save you,
Full of pity, joined with power.
He is able, He is able;
He is willing; doubt no more.

Come ye needy, come, and welcome,
God's free bounty glorify;
True belief and true repentance,
Every grace that brings you nigh.
Without money, without money
Come to Jesus Christ and buy.

Come, ye weary, heavy laden,
Bruised and broken by the fall;
If you tarry 'til you're better,
You will never come at all.
Not the righteous, not the righteous;
Sinners Jesus came to call.

 Let not conscience make you linger,
Nor of fitness fondly dream;
All the fitness He requireth
Is to feel your need of Him.
This He gives you, this He gives you,
'Tis the Spirit's rising beam.

Lo! The Incarnate God, ascended;
Pleads the merit of His blood.
Venture on Him; venture wholly,
Let no other trust intrude.
None but Jesus, none but Jesus
Can do helpless sinners good.

I love music. And hymns especially. I think that songs capture emotion and genuine feelings better than anything else. This is one of my favorite hymns. It talks about our sin, Christ's ability, and how we can't wait until we are sinless to go to Him. That is so awesome to know."Come, ye weary, heavy laden, Bruised and broken by the fall; If you tarry 'til you're better, You will never come at all." The song acknowledges that we are exhausted and carry a lot of baggage. It is also a reminder that this exhaustion comes from the fall and our sin. I love the line that says 'if you tarry 'til you're better, you will never come at all." It is a relief to know that we don't have to unpack that baggage or self medicate BEFORE we go to Christ. We are to hand our baggage off to Him and let Him mend our injuries. It's like you are walking and walking and walking, trying to make it to a doctor. As you are walking your injuries are getting worse and your baggage is feeling heavier. But you are so focused on getting yourself better that you don't realize that the Healer has been walking beside you, reaching out to you since you started. An example that comes to mind is when you are looking for something and you just can't find it. So you give up and BAM! You find it. Right in front of you. It happens to all of us. It is important to realize that this will be the most important thing you could ever give up on.

So, we are all sinners. Let's face it. We may be in denial. We may try to tell ourselves that deep down inside, humans are basically good. Wrong! Still don't believe me? Well think back to the last "good deed" you did. Remember? For a split second (or more) you thought about how good of a person everyone would think you were because of that "good deed". I recently volunteered to help out moving freshman into the dorms at my school. How sweet... Let me tell you the things that ran across my mind more than I would like to admit. "These freshman are all going to think I am SO cool!", and "Man, the people in charge of Residential Life are going to hire me to be an RA on the spot because I am so helpful", not to mention "I am so proud of myself for taking the time out of my day to help someone else." Doesn't sound so nice anymore, does it? It sounds narcissistic and prideful. I struggle with that a lot. This blog is to help me (I know, still narcissistic) let y'all know what else I am struggling with and what God is teaching me through it all. The title of this blog comes from the song "Carry Your Love" and it just reminded me that, not only is everything NOT about me, but I am not even in charge of myself. I am merely a vessel for breaking; and praise God that vessel is in His, the Redeemers hands, because otherwise this ship would have capsized long ago. Knowing that I am not my own is a humbling and relieving thought.
